The short bio might be small in size, but it’s large in content. The best situations for having a short bio ready include speaking engagements, company websites, company walls where your picture hangs, or any situation where time is of the essence.
The well-written short bio needs to include what you do currently, what you did previously, and what you are going to be doing. The content should be written so the words used paint a vivid picture of the individual.
To give you an idea, we’ve provided a short bio example. Here we use a healthcare bio. The first paragraph speaks as to what the individual is currently doing (name and organizations have been changed for privacy):
Dr. Craig James is a faculty member and attending ER physician at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Dr. James brings nearly 20 years of medical experience to his practice. He also currently serves as an attending physician at St. Vincent’s Birmingham Hospital and runs a unique training program at Children’s of Alabama for emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine/critical care fellows.
The second paragraph in this short bio example shares past accomplishments or recognitions that propelled the individual into their current status.
Dr. James has been a pioneer in his field since he began practicing medicine, and is recognized as an international expert in all areas of emergency and critical care ultrasound. He wrote one of the first books about EMS ultrasound in 2003, and was recognized at the First World Congress on Ultrasound in Emergency and Critical Care in 2008 for establishing the first EMS ultrasound program in the world.
The third paragraph shares details such as education and any other credentials that speak to his accomplishments.
He continues to innovate and bring new developments to the field. Dr. James is a graduate from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
The short bio is the most efficient of all the different types of bios. Short bios are also great for writers who need an informative bio in a pinch.
